(Havre) The Fish, Wildlife and Parks Havre Hunter check station wrapped up week six this past weekend and although hunter numbers were up for the week, they are still slightly below average for the year.There have been 1266 hunters checked this year, down three percent from last year. 235 antelope have been checked up fifty-seven percent over last year. Mule deer numbers have picked up, with 196 checked which is down twenty-two percent from last year. White-tailed deer checked is down 36 percent from a year ago, 43 have been brought through the check station and 19 elk have been checked which is up twenty percent from last year.
Upland bird numbers have slowed in the last couple weeks and reports have been better on the Western edge of the region than on the Eastern end. Waterfowl numbers are currently fifty-three percent below the long-term average. Hunting season comes to a close this weekend
