HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) − Following Tuesday night’s Havre City Council meeting, the Ordinance Committee met to discuss several items.
The main agenda item was changing the wording of an ordinance that requires the City Council to meet on the first and third week of every month. The committee is looking to change the wording to only require an agenda meeting on the first week, with the potential for the third week to be left open for a working meeting or an agenda meeting if necessary.
This item was voted on and passed unanimously. It will now go to the city attorney, who will potentially send it to the full City Council for a first reading.
Also discussed was the proposal of putting on the November ballot a vote on whether to move to a charter form of government, which would allow Havre to have more self-governing powers. This could allow Havre to create things such as a Tourism Tax or a Vacant Property Registration Ordinance. No action was taken, and this will be further discussed at the next Ordinance Committee meeting.
