HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – The Havre Police Protective Association recently participated in the local Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program as a way to give back this holiday season.
Lieutenant Aaron Wittmer says this was a natural substitute for their Annual Shop with a Cop event, which did not take place due to COVID-19 precautions.
“There was something like 76 tags, and we just decided as an organization that we would just take all those tags and go out and shop for a couple days. We had a budget of about $100 per tag and we just went and shopped. Some were over, some were a little less. We ended up spending several thousands of dollars. It was something that we think that kids should have a good Christmas. We just want to support youth-related stuff like that.”
Members of the HPPA and their families spent the past weekend taking tags from Angel Trees around town and purchasing dozens of presents for local youth.
The gifts were purchased using funds from the HPPA’s annual concert and gun raffle and are being delivered to children this week.
The HPPA hopes to bring back Shop with a Cop next year.
