HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – The Havre Public School District is trying to adapt in the wake of a two week closure.
Superintendent Andy Carlson says his biggest concern is making sure students are fed. He appreciates those interested in helping, but asks that people in high risk groups refrain from visiting school grounds.
“If you want to help, and I’ve had a lot of people contact me and haven’t been able to get back to everybody, what you can you do is go up there and say ‘I need 6 meals.’ You can pick up breakfast and lunch from 8-10 AM at Lincoln-McKinley and Highland Park.”
Carlson says the district is working on transitioning to online learning during the closure, but that some students don’t have internet access.
“Connectivity is going to be a real issue for us. This is what’s really hard, is we have some folks who have access, and some folks who don’t have access. Honestly, we’re just trying to make some kind of determination of who we can and can’t reach.”
Carlson says even when the schools reopen, some students will probably still be learning online.
