HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Havre Public Schools is continuing its transition to Phase 3A of reopening, which includes four days a week of classroom learning.
Elementary students transitioned to 3A this week, while, middle and high school students will move to 3A on Monday, the first day of the new semester.
Interim Superintendent Craig Mueller says 170 of the estimated 300 District staff members accepted the Health Department’s offer to take the first dose of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine last week, a large factor in the decision to increase in-person learning.
“It was definitely the greatest factor in moving us forward to returning in schedule 3A, as we didn’t have to particularly pay as close attention to our positivity rate, because that’s something we’ve talked about since the beginning of the year, knowing that our teachers have that additional protection of the first wave of the vaccination.”
Another positive development for the District is the expected arrival of 500 long-awaited Chromebooks on Monday.
“They are going to be here on Monday, which will require a sizeable effort from our tech department to get those distributed in potentially mid to late next week. What we are going to do is roll those out at the high school, and then down tothe middle school so that they’ll be one to one with Chromebooks. And then with our remaining devices, we’ll address the needs that exist at Sunnyside and Lincoln McKinley. Our Highland Park learners all have iPads right now that we were able to purchase with the first round of COVID relief funds early in the year.”
Mueller says he is hopeful the District can move to five days a week of in-person learning in the coming months, but that it will depend on how this transition goes.
