(Havre – MFP) As previously reported by New Media Broadcasters, Havre Public Schools is polling the public this summer during the May 7 ballots to increase their property taxes in order to keep the school fully funded.
Havre may not be the only one with these levy asks, as the entire state has schools coming out in droves for the same thing; the Montana Free Press reporting that seven of Montana’s eight largest AA school districts are asking local taxpayers to shoulder more of the financial load for public education.
MFP also reports that among many causes, the leading causes of school funding shortcomings seem to be the conclusion of COVID relief funds, a decline in public school enrollment, and what many schools are calling an “outdated” state funding formula for schools.
