HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Havre Public Works Director Dave Peterson has announced that he will be retiring, effective sometime in early 2023.
Peterson has served the city of Havre for over three decades.
“I’ll have about 34 years in with the city and I’m looking to give someone else an opportunity to get in here and see what they can do and explore other options. But that’s really kind of it. I still enjoy what I’m doing here and things like that … These things, they always take a little bit of time. And it’s nice to get the time to be able to try to see who may be interested in filling out the position and things like that. And the way the job market is nowadays, it’s tough to find people. So I had talked to (former Mayor Tim) Solomon when he was here and (current Mayor Doug Kaercher) was aware that I’d been looking at it the past couple of years. And I told him by June, I’ll give him a pretty firm date of when I’m gonna be done. But it could be ten months, it could be another year. Another 12 months is kind of what I’m looking at.”
In addition, Deputy Public Works Director Jeff Jensen will be retiring, effective at the end of this calendar this year.
With Peterson and Jensen on the way out, Peterson says they are working on getting employee Chris Klobofski up to speed.
“Chris has been with us for a little over a year. He is our engineering CAD tech person. So he’s with the city now, so just getting him familiar. So like I said, (if the city) doesn’t have replacements right away, at least they’ll have somebody that’s going to get his feet wet a little bit in something like this. If they find a Director, it’ll be basically up to the Director who they want to have in some of these positions.”
