HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – The Havre Safety Committee convened for a brief meeting at City Hall on Wednesday.
Committee Chair Josh Miller provided a short update regarding ongoing testing of the Havre City Complex, especially with regard to the Fire Hall, for the potential presence of carcinogens such as asbestos, lead and diesel exhaust.
Hygienix LLC out of Great Falls has been chosen by the City to perform the tests. According to an email sent by Hygienix Principal Keith Cron to Mayor Doug Kaercher, most of the asbestos wipe samples collected throughout the building earlier this month showed elevated levels along surfaces.
Results from other samples are still pending. The email was read at the meeting by Miller.
Miller says that lead results should be in within the next three weeks and a final report should be available within the next two months, at which point a Special Safety Committee meeting will likely be called to address it in a public setting.
A building plan will then need to be put in place to detail how the City plans to remediate concerns.
