HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – The Havre Service Center of the Salvation Army, in partnership with Samaritan’s Feet, churches, beauticians and others in the community, are preparing for their annual Back to School Bash, scheduled for Saturday, August 24 from 11-1:30pm at Patterson Park.
Trina Crawford, Director of the Havre Service Center of the Salvation Army, says this program helps families in need get ready for the school year.
“Families can come and they can get school supplies, they can come and get new shoes and socks,” Crawford said. “They can come and get their hair cut. There is going to be a meal, so they can eat. And then there is going to be games and just general fun. Just a good fun time for the kids and their families to come and have a good time.”
Crawford says providing back to school supplies is a rewarding experience.
“What’s really special is when you see someone who didn’t expect to get as much as they did and then they cry because they are almost overwhelmed by the generosity,” Crawford said. “That’s probably the most rewarding part.”
This program is for families with kids in grades Kindergarten through 8th Grade at Havre Schools. Families receiving back to school items need to bring identification, social security cards, and proof of both residency and income to the event. Having the name of the student’s teacher is highly suggested but not required.
Donations of school supplies must be sent to the Havre Salvation Army Thrift Store or Emergency Service Office by August 22. For donations of shoes, money or other items that are not back to school supplies, the person to contact is Christy Edmonds at 390-0977.
