HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – On Tuesday, Havre’s School Board of Trustees held their regular meeting at Havre Middle School. Superintendent of Schools Andy Carlson says it was a relatively uneventful evening as they had the first reading for several policy changes.
“One of the pieces was enrollment for exceptional circumstances for children that are under 5 years old into a kindergarten. It has to follow law and there are certain pieces that have to be in place. For instance, it would have to be in certain demographic groups, like free and reduced lunch, American Indian students, LEP students.”
Carlson says they also added vaping to their tobacco policy as well as made a way to help adults stop smoking.
“We added specifically to our tobacco policy, vaping and things like that. We’ve had innovative devices in there and that’s covered us, but they’re prevalent enough that we need the actual verbiage in there. And then we also, in there, put that if an adult is looking trying to stop using tobacco, they can do so. As long as they’ve communicated and worked out with the building principal or the building supervisor.”
The Board also started their superintendent evaluations, which must be returned to Chair Aileen Couch by November 22nd.
