HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – The Havre School Board held a special meeting on Thursday night and selected Scott Adams to fill the Trustee seat that was vacated when Brian Williams resigned earlier this fall.
The motion to approve Adams as a Trustee was approved by a 5-2 vote.
There were eight initial applicants for the position. Adams, Jim Donovan and Lorraine Larson were selected as the three finalists at the November 24th Board meeting following a screening process.
During Thursday’s meeting, each of the three finalists were interviewed by the Board.
Adams, a 1995 Havre High School graduate and employee of the United States Automobile Association, was the first candidate interviewed. He said he wants to use his leadership skills to be an advocate for students and teachers.
Jim Donovan, who worked in the Havre School District for 23 years, most recently as transportation director, was the second candidate interviewed. He said his intricate knowledge of the District and ability to listen and learn made him the right candidate.
Lorraine Larson, an employee of Havre Public Schools from 1975-2015, including as a special education teacher for her first 14 years and a school psychologist for her final 26 years with the District, was the final candidate interviewed. She commended the District for the job they have done during the pandemic and emphasized the importance of a quality speical education program.
Following the interviews, the Board went into a discussion over who to select. They all agreed that each of the finalists was worthy of the position.
The meeting lasted just over two hours.
The seat will be up for election in May, with the winner serving out the final two years of former Trustee Williams’ term. The Trustee seats of Ed Hill, Aileen Couch, and Harvey Capellen will be up for election for three year terms in May.
However, during the meeting, it was also announced that Trustee Ed Hill has submitted his letter of resignation, which will be on the Agenda at the Board’s January meeting. Hill was elected to represent House District 28 in the Montana Legislature.
