(Havre) Now that winter is upon us and cold weather is increasingly common, the city of Havre has seen an increase in the number of breaks in main water lines.
New Media Broadcasters spoke with Havre Director of Public Works Trevor Mork, who says it’s a hardware problem.
“Winter time, when the frostline starts to penetrate into the ground, it causes a shift in the ground. When the ground starts moving, everything moves with it and sometimes that means a water main may break. especially a material like cast iron. We’re moving towards HDPE or PVC which are both plastic based”
Mork says that if anyone notices something that might be a water main break, to either call city hall during normal business hours or the Havre Police Department non-emergency line outside of business hours.
