HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Despite a late influx of donations leading up to the Christmas holiday, the Havre Service Center of the Salvation Army fell short of their fundraising goal for their Red Kettle campaign.
Emergency Services Director Trina Crawford says they raised $29,076, nearly $10,000 short of their $39,000 goal.
“It didn’t meet our goal that we had hoped for. And what that means is that because we didn’t meet that goal, we just won’t be able to help as many people as we were able to help last year in 2021. People can still donate to this campaign though if they still want to either by mailing a check to P.O. Box 418, or bringing in a check, or even donating online. So there are still lots of ways that you can help us out, that people can help us out to try to get to that goal. And it would be fantastic if we could get it. Last year we did help over 595 people in our community.”
When it comes to their Angel Tree program, Crawford says 99 children in the area were provided with Christmas gifts this year.
“I want to really thank the community of Havre for stepping up and helping making that program successful. This year, the gifts were better, almost all of the parents that came in and got their stuff were just astonished at what they received. And it was just lots of tears of joy, and lots of really big thank yous.”
Crawford says during the brutally cold winter, they are working with their clients to help prevent evictions and keep as many people warm as possible.
