After beating Libby earlier on Friday, the Havre Softball Team dropped a tough game against Laurel in the Class A State Softball tournament, (3-0).
Adrienne Roth picked up the win for the Locomotives, pitching a 1-hit complete game and striking out two Blue Ponies. Laurel got its first two runs in the top of the third inning courtesy of an RBI single by Josie Benson, which was one of her three hits on the night, and a fielder’s choice. Nothing from either side offensively until the last inning, where Tierra Langford was able to drive in an insurance run with the bases loaded.
Elle Verploegen was again in the circle for the Blue Ponies, where she also pitched a complete game and struck out three Locomotives. Jersi Morse recorded the only hit of the game for Havre, which was a single in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Havre is now in the consolation bracket of the state tournament, which has been taking place in Belgrade. The Blue Ponies will now play Fergus. The team beat the Golden Eagles twice in the regular season, outscoring them by a combined 24-4. The game is set for 8am on Saturday.
