Havre Softball Rides Into High Stakes Tournament

The Havre softball team has won its first three games of the 2024 season by a combined (40-5) score. All is well in the Blue Pony camp right now and New Media Broadcasters asked head coach Tony Vigliotti how he would assess his team’s performance early on in the season both in the circle and at the plate.

“It is early, but to be (3-0) out of the gate is good,” Vigliotti said. “(I’m really) happy with both Elle (Verploegen) and Rachel Jette in the circle.”

“They’ve been consistent,” Vigliotti continued. “Not many walks (and) some strikeouts.”

“We’re swinging the bats well early in the season,” Vigliotti said. “Hopefully we can just continue to do that and get better each and every time we go out.”

The team will ramp up for its toughest tests yet as they will go back down to Lewistown for a two-day tournament this weekend. While the games don’t count towards seeding for the divisional tournament, Vigliotti previewed the matchups that will be key for games that matter more down the stretch.

“We will play Billings Central, (which) finished second at the state tournament last year and we will play East Helena on Friday,” Vigliotti said. “On Saturday, we play Columbia Falls, the defending state champion in Class ‘A’ and Laurel, third last year in the Class ‘A’ State Tournament.”

“It’s a step up in competition for us,” Vigliotti said. “(We) want to see where we’re at early in the year.”

Stay tuned to New Media Broadcasters throughout the time as results come in for the Fergus Tournament.
