With the regular season for winter sports in Montana winding down, New Media Broadcasters wanted to get the thoughts of a local-area activities director about how his programs have been doing.
New Media Broadcasters caught up with Havre AD Mark Irvin, who gave an overall standing for how the Blue Pony basketball, wrestling, and swimming teams have done during this stretch of time.
“We’re pleased where we’re at and we’re excited to get to the postseason,” Irvin said. “(I’m) very happy with where our kids are at. I know our coaches are working hard.”
“We’re always looking for that end-of-the-year run where we hopefully make some noise at our postseason tournaments and top off and complete the season in a very good way,” Irvin continued.
“That’s what the expectation is with all our teams for wrestling, swim, and boys and girls basketball,” Irvin said.
One of the other main topics to circulate in recent weeks has been NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) for high school athletes in the state of Montana. Irvin gave a rough idea of what that would look like on the Hi–Line for his crew.
“I don’t know that it’s going to affect us in a great deal not only here in Havre, but maybe anywhere in the state at this time,” Irvin said. “(Student-athletes) just cannot be attached to the high school or a (Montana High School Association) event in any way.”
“You might have a kid who can make a few extra dollars (now) doing an ad for a local business,” Irvin continued. “They just are not allowed to wear anything Blue Pony for us for instance.”
“You wouldn’t have any kind of a Havre uniform on,” Irvin said. “It wouldn’t take place in any kind of a Havre school facility.”
