HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Following Monday night’s Havre City Council meeting, the Streets and Sidewalks Committee met for more than an hour to discuss potential Special Improvement Districts, or SIDs, in town.
SIDs are projects in which neighborhood homeowners pay a fee for a service. They are generally repaid over 20 years and can be used for a variety of different projects, including road and infrastructure repair.
Potential areas in town for SIDs that were discussed include the east side of town near 14th Street, Bullhook Boulevard by Heritage Drive, and 13th Street West by Northern Montana Hospital.
Once an area is chosen by the City Council to be a potential SID, they will have to notify home owners in the neighborhood. They would then hold public hearings to inform the neighborhood before having them cast votes on if they would like to move forward with the project.
No official action was taken, and potential SIDs in Havre will be discussed at future meetings.
