Havre Track and Field Setting Sights on Laurel

The Havre Track and Field teams have continued a torrid pace to begin the 2024 season, claiming victory in the team competitions once again in the most recent meet, its own.

Head coach Kari Filius told New Media Broadcasters that the goal is to continue to qualify individuals for state by running their best times and performing well in the field. She also noted the difference she saw in her team being able to compete right at home for the ultimate performances in front of the crowds that came to watch over the weekend.

“They’re just excited to compete,” Filius said. “A lot of us are getting pre-qualified for state, so more of us are trying to do that.”

“It’s nice to not have to get up at 4 in the morning because we had always traveled pretty far being in Havre,” Filius continued. “It was really nice for them to sleep in a little bit and have a nice breakfast. They like to perform in front of the crowd in Havre.”

“We don’t get too many home (meets) and they did well,” Filius said.

Next up for the Blue Ponies to conquer is the Gold Strike Invitational, which will be held in Laurel on Saturday. Filius outlined her plans for the week in getting her team ready to continue the momentum.

“When we have a weekend meet like on a Saturday, Mondays and Wednesdays are our hard days,” Filius said. “We had a good day (Monday) with weather. This Wednesday, it was colder.”

“We’re just trying to get to the end of the week of those hard workouts so we can get a little more fresh for the weekend,” Filius continued.
