Havre Track and Field Using Success from Previous Meets Heading into Hosting Own

The Havre Track and Field teams have gotten off to superb starts to begin the 2024 season. The most recent campaigns saw the girls win the last two meets in Lewistown and at the Cal Wearley, while the boys were second at the Fergus Invite and also won on Wednesday during the most recent meet in town.

New Media Broadcasters talked with head coach Kari Filius and she said how much fun it has been to be on this roll.

“It’s been really fun,” Filius said. “Our kids (have been) getting ready to compete before every event that they’re in and we’ve had a lot of state pre-qualifiers.”

“Every meet, we get more kids qualifying and maybe some qualifying in multiple events,” Filius continued. “We get a lot better with what they’re doing faster (with) farther throws and farther jumps.”

The team will try to continue the momentum into hosting the Havre Invite on Saturday. Coach Filius gave the listening audience an idea of how the team is going through its training because of the scheduling conflicts around the Cal Wearley.

“We’ll talk about what happened (and) how the kids did,” Filius said. “The kids that don’t place, they need to know how much they’re improving, too.”

“We’ll stretch and loosen up a little and have an easy day (Friday),” Filius continued. “We don’t want to do too much before another meet.”

“(The meet will) be (in Havre), which is nice,” Filius said. “It’ll be a little bit smaller (of) a meet. The kids will get to do some of the events that they’ve been waiting to do.”

The Havre Invite will begin at 9am on Saturday morning and New Media Broadcasters will have results once they become available.
