The Havre High volleyball team is set to make its 2024 debut in the next couple of weeks. New Media Broadcasters spoke with Blue Ponies head coach Cassie Krueger and she said what she has been doing with her offseason after having one full year of coaching under her belt with the Lady Blue Ponies.
“We’ve been putting in a lot of time with the coaches and just getting ideas put together from what went really well last season (to) what we can improve upon this season,” Krueger said. “We’ve been getting feedback from the girls as well and we did exit interviews.”
“We’ve just been working with (the players) in the offseason and (are) already getting a feel for how this year is going to be structured,” Krueger continued.
First, the team needs to be formed through a tryout process. The Blue Ponies will be doing two days’ worth of drills to find the pieces that will be able to contribute to the squad for this season. Krueger outlined the type of young woman she would like to be able to coach this fall.
“We’re just looking for girls that are going to show up and be team players and are going to be mentally gritty this upcoming season,” Krueger said. “We’ve had an amazing turnout all summer with open gyms and strength training.”
“We have a pretty good idea of what this year is already going to entail, but we’re going into tryouts with an open mind and hoping that everyone just brings as much effort as possible,” Krueger continued. “That’s really what we’re looking for. We want players who want to be there and who want to do the work.”
Tryouts are ongoing and will conclude on Saturday with the last of three sessions from 9-11am. After meetings that afternoon, the teams will be revealed to see who made it on varsity, JV, and ‘C’ squads.
