
GREAT FALLS, Mont. (NMB) – A Hays man was arraigned in U.S. District Court last week based on allegations that he possessed and distributed methamphetamine on the Fort Belknap Reservation.
Damon Joel Castillo (a.k.a. Joe Castillo), 46, pleaded not guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribute meth and three counts of distribution of meth. He remains detained pending further proceedings.
The grand jury indictment, which was filed on August 4th, alleges that from July 2021 through at least April 2022, Castillo knowingly possessed with the intent to distribute five or more grams of meth on the Fort Belknap Reservation.
On April 7th, 10th and 12th of 2022, Castillo allegedly knowingly and intentionally distributed a substance containing meth on the Fort Belknap Reservation.
If convicted of the most serious crime, Castillo faces a mandatory minimum five years to 40 years in prison, a $5 million fine and four years of supervised release. The FBI, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and Fort Belknap Law Enforcement Services investigated the case.
If convicted on any of the offenses, the defendant shall forfeit any property used or obtained as a result of the offenses.
