(Havre) – Livestock producers in 14 Montana counties are now eligible for the 2023 Livestock Forage Disaster Program. Lisa Toth the deputy director of the Hill County Farm Service Agency Office talks about the program.
“So, the Livestock Forage Disaster Program is a program for Livestock producers they are eligible based upon whether or not the county hits the drought monitor of D3 which is extreme drought, or they’ve been in D2 for at least 8 weeks. Hill county met that requirement on September 5th of 2023 and the rare now several counties in the state now eligible for the Livestock Feed Program. So, it’s basically for eligible livestock which pretty much encompasses most cattle sheep any grazing animal and if they’ve been grazing during our grazing period which for Hill County is May 1st through November 30th then those producers are eligible to sign up for the program.”
She goes on to explain which counties are eligible for the program.
“The other counties that are eligible in the area are Blaine county, Chouteau County, Flathead, Glaicer, Lake, Liberty, Lincoln, Mineral, Missoula, Pondera, Sanders, Teton, and Toole are also eligible for the program right now. Another thing that since we hit eligibility for the Livestock Feed Program our emergency livestock assistance program which is for feed transportation or water transportation these counties are also eligible for that program too, for the livestock producers.”
