(NMB) MSU Northern will be hosting Hoops for a Cause Fundraiser on Saturday August 6th. The 3 on 3 basketball tournament is open to boys and girls in grades three through eight. The event will raise money to help support Frontier Conference athletes battling cancer. Hoops for a Cause organizer, MSU Northern Skylight Coach Chris Mouat says the event started out as a camp he and former Skylight Natalie Vaupel were going to host in Butte. ” Initially it was six years ago when the Thatcher girl in Butte was killed. Natalie and I were going to run a camp in Butte and we talked about different things, but once that accident happened we decided to do it as a benefit. There was a scholarship in her name close to being endowed and so what we did that one day in Butte we were able to get it endowed and it kind of took off from there. We just found a different worthy cause every year.”
The entry fee is 100.00 dollars per team, with a 4 game guarantee. There will be a free barbecue for participants and their family and awards will be given to championship teams. To enter a team, call Chris Mouat at 265- 3584 or email cmouat@msun.edu. Funds raised this year will benefit MSU Northern Wrestler Jett Jones and University of Providence women’s basketball player Jaynah Jones who have both been battling cancer. Since it’s inception, Hoops For a Cause has donated over Fifty Three Thousand dollars to five different causes.
