(Chinook) Chinook schools is facing an upcoming teacher shortage according to Superintendent Fred Hofman.
This is a statewide issue, as Montana State University graduated some of their lowest amount of teachers in the past 10 years in the most recent graduating class.
Hofman tells us that while other schools in the region pay more, Chinook Public Schools is implementing new ways to remain competitive in recruiting teachers.
“One of the things that we did had to do with how we handle our insurance. We do provide full coverage insurance for an individual, for all of our employees. We have a number of prospective hires, including a number that we ended up hiring after we made this change, but if you are already covered by insurance or if you’re young enough and still on your parents insurance, we will pay you a portion of the premium that we would have spent on your insurance and give it to you as salary.”, he said.
