Increased Patrols Expected Through Memorial Day Weekend

HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – The Havre Police Department and Hill County Sheriff’s Office would like to let the public know that there will be increased patrols in Havre and Hill County through Memorial Day Weekend.

Wearing a seat belt is the best defense to prevent serious injury and death in the event of a crash. As part of the nationwide “Click It or Ticket” campaign, between May 24th and June 6th, local law enforcement and the Montana Highway Patrol will be out to educate motorists and enforce Montana’s seat belt law statewide.

In 2019, 184 people died in roadway crashes in Montana. 74 of the vehicle occupant deaths were unrestrained, 93 unrestrained vehicle occupant deaths occurred in rural roadway crashes, and 64 unrestrained vehicle occupants who died were ejected.

Law enforcement in Montana continues to work towards reaching zero deaths and zero serious injuries on Montana roadways. One way to help reach that goal is by always buckling up.

According to law enforcement, your chance of surviving a crash increases by 50 percent if you are buckled up.
