DODSON, Mont. (NMB) – Although the Phillips County Fair is scheduled to proceed July 30th through August 2nd, the Indian Relay and Chariot Races have been canceled.
The decision was made after Fort Belknap President Andrew Werk Jr. wrote a letter to the Northeast Corner Relay Committee asking for the races, which were to take place on August 2nd, to be canceled.
The letter cited the possibility of a large crowd featuring Fort Belknap residents gathering at the fairgrounds with the potential of COVID-19 spreading.
In a separate letter sent last week, the Fort Belknap Indian Community Council strongly discouraged their residents from attending large gatherings, including the Phillips County Fair and this past weekend’s Big Sky Games.
