US Senator Steve Daines cosponsored the bipartisan Lake Access Keeping Economies Strong (LAKES) Act, to ensure the US Army Corps of Engineer (USACE) Units at Fort Peck retain fees from visitors to the dam and reservoir, allowing them to continue improving recreational opportunities at Fort Peck.
US Senator Jon Tester recently joined the Lake Access Keeping Economies Strong (LAKES) Act.
Currently, fees are collected at USACE sites across the nation, with no requirement for the funds be locally kept.
In Montana Fort Peck is joined with Libby Dam and reservoir as USACE managed recreation sites. These sites and adjacent sites cover over 150,000 land acres, 263,000 water acres and 1500 miles of active shoreline. The areas are visited by more than 720,000 people, supporting 328 jobs and having more than $31 million in economic impact.
