Lights Basketball Building Off Competitive Non-Conference Finish

MSU-Northern Lights basketball ended the non-conference slate taking down Canadian opponents earlier this week. New Media Broadcasters got the thoughts of head coach Shawn Huse in terms of how his team played.

“Well, like you’d expect,” Huse said. “That’s why we like to play those games: to get the minds back into the flow of playing college basketball games.”

“(We were) able to rotate a lot of guys,” Huse continued. “Ultimately, just a good couple of games (against King’s and Keyano) to get out of there and have to work and play and do different things that we’re going to need to do in conference if we’re going to have success.”

Huse and the Lights will play in the conference opener at home against Montana Western. He said what his former player Pat Jensen has done to build off the Bulldogs’ roster from last season and how that has translated to consistency for the start of their season.

“You start with the returners who really proved themselves last year in conference,” Huse said. “Those guys are continuing to do a great deal of the work for them and a lot of the lifting.”

“You really have to be cognizant of how you’re going to guard those guys and what you’re going to do offensively,” Huse continued. “(Coach Jensen) has added some nice pieces to the puzzle as well.”

“I would just say they’re a solid (and) complete team with a good inside punch and a good outside punch,” Huse said.

The Lights (6-7) follow the Skylights on Saturday with a scheduled 4pm tip against Montana Western (8-5) at the Armory Gym on Saturday. Noah Friedman will have the call on KPQX-92.5FM and HiLineToday.com.
