Lights Basketball Lands Another Signing in Busy Off-Season

On Wednesday, the MSU-Northern Basketball Lights announced the signing of Anthony Mendez to the 2023-24 basketball team. A Junior, Mendez is a 2-year transfer from Sierra College in Rocklin, California.

Mendez cracked the starting lineup with the Wolverines in his second season on the team, playing in 28 games and featuring in the first five in 27 of them. In that span, he averaged 12.5 points, 4.9 rebounds, and shot almost 50% from beyond the arc last season. These stats earned him Second-Team All Big-8 for the California Community College Athletic Association.

Head coach Shawn Huse said this of Mendez: “Anthony is a guy who, simply put, lives in the gym.”

He is a self-made player who will make you pay if he gets an open look at all. We are very excited to have this marksman join our team as he has had a highly decorated high school career and played his role extremely well these past two seasons.” – Huse

Mendez will provide depth to a Lights team that graduated four seniors this past season. MSU-Northern look to capitalize on this signing by improving their 19-win squad from a season ago.
