MSU-Northern men’s basketball has dropped its first three games of the 2024-25 Frontier Conference schedule. New Media Broadcasters got the latest from head coach Shawn Huse, who said after playing against Rocky that the defense has been consistent the entire season, but that it will still take time getting used to the Frontier Conference intensity.
“I think we’re doing an adequate, probably even better than adequate job defensively,” Huse said. “We’re right there, but we seem to go through some stretches offensively and we just have to find that combination, that magic, that formula more consistently.”
“Our guys are staying as optimistic as heck. I do know that,” Huse continued. “But I do think we’ll bloom. It’s going to take us time.”
Next up for Huse and the Lights will be a trip to Great Falls before coming back to play Carroll. Huse said this is the time to get that first win against two of the more competitive teams his squad can match up with.
“Now we play two teams that are similar to us in experience level,” Huse said. “Providence is playing loose. They kind of have even less experience than us, so they’re playing with nothing to lose.”
“Both teams pose different stuff than we’ve faced in general,” Huse continued. “So you’ve got to be ready for it.”
The Lights (6-10, 0-3 conference record) will face Providence (8-8, 2-1) on Thursday night with tipoff around 7pm in Great Falls. The Northern men will take on Carroll at the Armory Gym on Saturday around 4pm. Noah Friedman will broadcast both games on KPQX-92.5FM and HiLineToday.com.
