ULM, Mont. (NMB) – This Saturday, the Little Shell Chippewa Tribe will be hosting their annual Pow Wow in Ulm at the First People’s Buffalo Jump, south of Great Falls. Chair of the Pow Wow Committee Toni Atchison says the Grand Entry is at 1 PM and they will have craft and food vendors, as well as activity tables.
“This is just a traditional Pow Wow so, were just basically getting started. We haven’t been doing it that many years. So, it’s just traditional to where it’s not a competitive event.”
Atchison says that everyone is invited to this free event at this historic site.
“The buffalo jump, First People’s Buffalo Jump there is a historic area and it’s historic to a lot of the tribes in Montana. So, it’s the perfect place to hold our ceremony and the dance. It’s free. Of course, there’s now alcohol, firearms, that type of thing allowed. It’s family-oriented.”
They’ve been hosting this Pow Wow for less than 10 years and they won’t be handing out cash prizes or hosting any drum or singing contests. Atchison says that the 2019 Little Shell Pow Wow will be honoring their veterans and elders.
