Lots of County Government Spots will be Decided in 2026 Midterms

(NMB) Politically, 2026 means midterm elections. The most watched race may be for Montana’s Senate seat as Senator Steve Daines is up for re-election.

Montana also has two house seats up for election, currently held by Troy Downing and Ryan Zinke.

Several ballot initiatives are seeking signatures ahead of the November election including requiring judicial elections to remain non-partisan and capping increases on property tax assessments.

Locally in Hill County, Seats up for election are: Clerk and Recorder, currently held by Lexi Dockter. Auditor, currently held by Kathy Olson, Sheriif, now held by Jamie Ross. Hill County Commissioner District 1, Held now by Jake Strissel. Other seats are County Superintendent of Schools, Vicki Proctor. Treasurer, Sandy Brown, Justice of the Peace Audrey Barger and County Attorney Lacey Lincoln.

Filing for positions opens on February 17th and closes on March 4th.

The 2026 Primary election is June 2nd and General Election Tuesday November 3rd.
