Man Killed in Avalanche Near Cooke City

COOKE CITY, Mont. (NMB) – The Friends of the Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center has announced that a man was killed in an avalanche on Saturday evening near Cooke City.

The man was riding a motorized snow bike that triggered an avalanche at around 5 PM on Miller Mountain, located in the Sheep Creek drainage.

The rider was caught, strained through cliffs, and partially buried with their hand and airbag visible, and did not survive.

The avalanche was estimated to be 800 feet wide and 1,200 feet tall.
