BIG TIMBER, Mont. (NMB) – A 33-year-old woman from Manhattan, Montana was killed and a 25-year-old Billings man was severely injured in a crash in Sweet Grass County early Tuesday morning.
The Montana Highway Patrol reports that the crash occurred at 4:03 AM at mile marker 370 of I-90 west, when a Jeep Cherokee being driven by the Manhattan woman exited the roadway to the right and overcorrected entering a broadside slide rotating counterclockwise. The vehicle then rolled several times and both occupants were ejected.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, while the passenger was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Neither was wearing a seatbelt.
The road was clear and dry. Excessive speed and drug use are listed as suspected factors.
The involvement of two semi trucks in the crash is under investigation. One was a 1987 Kenworth pulling double trailers, and the other was a 2019 Peterbilt pulling a trailer. The drivers were a 30-year-old Butte man and a 35-year-old man from Tulsa, Oklahoma.
