MDT Proposes Project to Mitigate Flooding on Hay Coulee Road

CHESTER, Mont. (NMB) – The Montana Department of Transportation would like to announce and invite the public to comment on a proposal to rebuild about .4 miles of Hay Coulee Road, also known as 4700 Road South, about fifteen miles southeast of Chester in Liberty County.

A press release says that the project begins at the west edge of the coulee at approximate reference post 3.8 and extends east for .4 miles, ending near the east edge of the coulee at approximate reference post 4.2.

Proposed work includes adding drainage culverts and armoring the roadway and roadside slopes. The purpose of the project is to improve drainage and to armor the roadway to prevent future damage from flooding. The section of roadway has washed out multiple times and most recently in the spring of 2018.

The project is tentatively scheduled for construction in 2020, depending on completion of all project development activities and availability of funding.
