Memorial Day Ceremony

(NMB) American Legion Post # 11 hosted the Community Memorial Day Ceremony Monday morning at the Hill County Courthouse. The ceremony began with the Invocation by American Legion Clergy Bill Saboe, Boy Scout Troops raised the flag, Brian Carpenter sang the National Anthem and then read the names of the deceased local Veterans from the past year from June 1st to May 31st. The Honor guard did their firing salute, followed by taps.

The Laying of Wreaths was done by American Legion, VFW, American Legion Riders and Elks.

Dave Brewer Commander of American Legion Post #11 led the ceremony and said being able to do so means a lot to him.

It means a lot, especially to me having served twenty-seven years in the military. I’ve lost a lot of brothers and sisters over time. A lot of people I’ve known and cherished as friends and so it does, it means a lot to me to do this and to do it correctly and hopefully with honor.”-Brewer

The events continued at the Eagles Club with the MIA Empty Chair ceremony, An Elks Flag Speech, Essay speeches by St. Jude School students and concluded with a free will offering lunch.
