(Havre) While court proceedings are still ongoing for the three individuals accused of killing TR Yallup and Derrin Caplette in Box Elder earlier this year, the state has asked for a nine day trial for each of the defendants.
New Media Broadcasters was able to speak with the states assistant Attorney General Dan Guzynski, to ask about their involvement in the case.
“The trials that we ask for, the setting that we ask for, are just estimates. It’s really allowing the court to do their scheduling so that they have the court room available, the court staff and judge are available, and that everyone can coordinate. Trials are often times complex, and homicide trials often times have a lot of expert witnesses from the crime labs, they also have many law enforcement officers testify. Then there’s the lay-witnesses that need to testify as well. So, in Montana you’re right a two-week trial or a nine-day trial is a longer trial in Montana but it’s not out of the ordinary. I think a lot of our homicide trials go for about two weeks.”
