(Bozeman) An official from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services visited Bozeman for a discussion on maternal health for a project called The Enhancing Maternal Health Initiative.
The initiative seeks to improve health care for pregnant women as well as address disparities in accessing that health care across the country.
It focuses is on 12 different states, including Montana. According to the Health Resources and Services Administration, the state of Montana was selected because there’s a high need for improvement with this care.
Across the U.S. 36% of all counties lack hospitals and birthing centers. Four out of five pregnancy related deaths are considered to be preventable.
