(Helena) – This week is school choice week in Montana. Recently, Governor Greg Gianforte opted Montana into a tax credit for school choice that was funded in the One Big Beautiful Bill. Governor Gianforte told New Media Broadcasters why Montana Opted in.
“Just recently we opted into the new federal tax credit that was part of the Big Beautiful Bill and it’s one more tool in the box that gives Montana parents more flexibility in how their kids are educated.”
The One Big Beautiful Bill Act (signed into law July 4, 2025) created the first-ever federal K–12 school choice tax credit in U.S. history. The provision is based on the Educational Choice for Children Act (ECCA) and establishes a nationwide tax‑credit scholarship program that begins in 2027.
