Montanan’s to begin receiving supplemental tax bill.

(Montana – KRTV) Montana residents will be receiving their supplemental tax bill, this is an extra charge following the legal battle surrounding local governments authority to set their own property taxes.

Last November, the Montana Supreme Court ruled in favor of the state and the Montana Department of Revenue, stating that counties must follow the DOR’s tax mill calculations.

The effect is that 49 counties now need to collect an additional 17 mills from property taxpayers. The additional tax amounts to around $17 for every $1,000 of a property’s taxable value.
