HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Governor Steve Bullock announced Montana’s unemployment rate has dropped 2.9 percent in May.
In April, Montana saw an unemployment rate of 11.9 percent and then just one short month later saw this rate drop significantly to a strong 9 percent rate.
Bullock said, “Due to our early action to prevent the spread of COVID-19, we’ve been able to continue with the phased reopening of our state, our economy is recovering, and thousands of Montanans have returned to work. As we keep working to fight the spread of the virus, we will keep working every single day to stimulate our economy and support Montana families and businesses through this time.”
Montana remains well below the national rate of 13.3 percent and holds the 7th lowest unemployment rate in the USA.
Hill, Liberty, Chouteau, Blaine and Phillips Counties currently hold unemployment rates on or below six percent.
Right now, the average unemployment rate of Montana’s Indian reservations is 13.17 percent.
