More Information Provided on Man Killed after Being Picked Up By Recycling Truck

HELENA, Mont. (NMB) – The Lewis & Clark County Sheriff’s Office has released the identity of the man who was killed after being picked up by a city of Helena recycling truck.

24-year-old Jacob Garza of Utah died of multiple blunt force trauma on May 12th after he sought shelter in a cardboard recycling bin. The man was picked up by a recycling truck and was deposited at Pacific Steel and Recycling, where he was crushed by a trash compactor.

Garza was in the area for a week and was living in a vehicle near I-15.

Law enforcement say that he was offered a list of local resources and social services, but he “didn’t take any of those suggestions.”
