(Bozeman) – Montana State University and its partners have been granted $4.1 million. The grant is to be used for a five year project for training school and mental health counselors for work in rural Montana, focusing on developing partnerships in those areas.
The grant was provided by the US Department of Education. It will be used for the Rural Mental Health Preparation Practice Pathway Partnership, aiming to increase diversity, training, employment, retention and effectiveness of mental health service professionals in Montana’s rural, remote and tribal communities.
The project is expecting to create 60 school and mental health counselors, half coming from MSU, and the other half from University of Montana. An additional goal of 40 of those trained counselors are expected to be hired in the rural areas across the state
