MSU-N Wrestling Optimistic for the First Time in a Minute

The MSU-Northern wrestling team is near full strength again as they keep preparing for competition. New Media Broadcasters caught up with head coach Tyson Thivierge and he said how big of a difference the rest made for his team after the layoff that was.

“Guys are getting healed up. We’ve got (wrestlers) down in the weights that they need,” Thivierge said. “It’s the worst but best-case scenario. Not competing for a month is obviously the worst-case scenario, but these guys are chomping at the bit again.”

“They’re hungry. They want to get on the mat. They want to compete,” Thivierge continued. “We’ve just been sitting idle.”

“We’ve been changing practices up, catering to (the wrestlers),” Thivierge said. “We have to pull back on the reigns a little bit because they are so eager.”

Between all the activity surrounding the MSU-N wrestling program in recent weeks, Thivierge takes the listeners inside what practice has been like over that time period with all the injuries and shuffling around.

“We’re trying out some new guys at specific weight classes and we’re going to give them a shot while a few others still heal up,” Thivierge said. “Other than that, I love the excitement in the room right now.”

“This has been a fun break, but it’s been a long break,” Thivierge continued.

Stay tuned to a story later this week as the Lights wrestlers compete at the Missouri Collegiate.
