MISSOULA, Mont. (NMB) – Undergraduate women from across the state participated in the 3rd annual Montana NEW Leadership Institute this past week at the University of Montana. A press release says that among those participating are two Montana State University-Northern students, Junior Jaclyn Bates and Sophomore Erika Anderson. The weeklong residential program seeks to educate, empower, and encourage college women to become politically active and to take on leadership roles.
Students met with local, statewide, and national leaders and develop leadership skills through discussions, workshops, and hands-on projects. Participants are encouraged to develop their leadership skills and share what they have learned in their communities.
Women are widely underrepresented in state and national political offices. Leadership skill training like this program may help women bridge the gap between political interest and political leadership.
