MSU Spirit of the West Marching Band’s Role on Campus

(Bozeman) – The Montana State University Bobcat Football Team is on a bye this week in the NCAA Football Championship Series Playoffs. One College Football Tradition is marching bands, and that includes the Spirit of the West Marching Band at MSU. Nathan Stark, Band Director tells us more about the role the Spirit of the West Marching Band has on campus.

“The Collegiate band tradition is really rooted in athletics and is rooted in this idea of pageantry in motion. So, the idea is, we are bringing an element to football games or campus events or even stuff off of campus. Parades or sometimes dedications or all sorts of different things where there’s an audience or there’s a need for some energy and some music and just some enthusiasm.”

The Montana State University Spirit of the West Marching Band was founded in 1983 and has 200 plus members representing 20 states.
