New VA Clinic Opening January 20th in Havre

HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – The Montana VA Health Care System (MTVAHCS) has announced that the new Merril Lundman VA Outpatient Clinic will open in Havre on January 20th.

The new facility is over 3,000 square feet in size and will feature a laboratory, expanded mental health care, a dedicated women’s health exam room, and access to specialists via telehealth.

“It’s been in the making for about 10 years,” says MTVAHCS Executive Director Dr. Judy Hayman. “Why it took that long is buildings were identified in Havre and due to whatever was going on at the time, they were no longer available then they were available, then they weren’t available. So we feel very fortunate to have located this new space.”

The new Clinic is a significant upgrade from the current facility, which is under 1,200 square feet.

“It’s almost like going from the horse and buggy age to the jet age. The clinic currently is very small. Staff have done a fabulous job there for years with very limited spaces. The current space also has very few parking spots available. As the new site is in the Mall, there is essentially unlimited parking there and just the fact that this is designed and built according to our specifications. Brand new building, everything was built for the ground up.”

Hayman notes that staff have been doing the best they could in the current space, but it simply wasn’t adequate.

“The staff were very flexible and adaptable and made things work. But literally, the space, you could probably put in a quarter of the new space. The other thing that is important, because the current clinic is so small, we had a social worker who was located in another building. And I believe she came over for appointments or did telehealth. But now a social worker will be located in the clinic with our other VA staff.”

The address of the new location, which is at the Holiday Village Mall, is 1753 US Highway 2 NW, Suite 3.

Veterans should have been notified of the change in clinic location. Patients with scheduled appointments after January 20th should expect to be seen at the new location.

“If you’re a Veteran who lives in the Havre area and you haven’t checked out the VA recently, please do,” Hayman adds. “Eligibility requirements change all the time. We’ve now got lots of space to accomodate seeing more Veterans.”

Any Veterans with questions can call 265-4304.

The Clinic is named after Merril Lundman, a local Veteran who served in Germany in the 1960’s and ended his career working for the BNSF Railroad.
