NMH Offering 2nd Session for Diabetes Prevention Program

HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Hi-Line Community members are again being offered a chance to prevent type 2 diabetes with the Health Lifestyle change program being offered by Northern Montana Hospital for the second year. A press release says that guided by trained lifestyle coaches, participants will be able to learn the skills they need to make lasting changes such as losing a modest amount of weight, being more physically active, and managing stress. This class will also be beneficial to Montanans with increased cardio-vascular risks.

This Diabetes Prevention Program is based on research that showed that people with pre-diabetes who lost five to seven percent of their body weight by making modest changes reduced their risk of developing type 2 diabetes within 5 years.

The Healthy Lifestyle program meets at Northern Montana Hospital and costs $150 for they year. Names are being taken for the new session that starts in January. To participate in the program people must meet their eligibility criteria and be referred by their Primary Care Provider.
