MSU-Northern basketball plays its first games since coming back from Arizona and observing Christmas break. On Sunday afternoon, the teams hosted King’s University out of Edmonton in Canada. The final scores were Northern sweeps of (89-36) for the Skylights and (88-60) for the Lights.
The Northern Skylights (8-4) shut out the Eagles, (19-0) in the first quarter and also went on a (25-9) run for the duration of the fourth quarter. Shyan Krass led the way with a double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds. She was one of four scorers in double-figures as Savannah Toms had 15, Taya Trottier had 13, and Becky Melcher knocked down three of four field goals from long range for 12 points.
Lights basketball (5-7) handled the Eagles easily, too. With 8:07 to go in the first half, the game was tied at 22. From that point to the break, Northern went on a (24-5) run and never looked back. The Lights also had four players in double-figures as Raefe McEnroe was the team’s leading scorer with 17 points on nearly 50 percent shooting. Cinque Maxwell put up 16 points, while Jack Reardon scored 14 and Leo Sewell finished with 10.
MSU-Northern basketball has one more doubleheader before conference play. It will take place on Tuesday against Keyano University and times are 1pm for the Skylights and 3pm for the Lights.
