Earlier this week with the cancellation of the Tony Banovich Memorial Invitational in Butte because of the bad air quality, the MSU-Northern cross-country teams went further east to Billings to partake in the Yellowjacket/Battlin’ Bear Open, co-hosted by MSU-Billings and Rocky Mountain College.
Makaela Kelly was the fastest Skylight runner, coming in at 22:24.87 and finishing in 28th place. Deseara Toombs was two spots behind her in 30th, finishing the race at 24:29.2.
For the Lights, it was James Stensland-Plymale who recorded a top-20 finish, placing 17th at 27:50.70. Jaden Koon crossed to finish at 29:42.10. In his first collegiate race, North Star alum Carter Campbell ran in at 29:42.29, which was just behind his teammate.
The Northern cross-country teams will have a little break before competition, running next in Missoula for the Montana Invite on Sep. 20.
